Lionsgate UK has taken the UK and Ireland rights to In The Hands Of The Gods, which had its world premiere in Cannes Market last night.

Independent is handling sales on the feature, which is about five young British freestyle football fans who travel the world in hopes of meeting Diego Maradona (the film's previous title was In Search Of Diego).

Lionsgate plans a September 2007 release of the feature directed by Gabe and Benjamin Turner. Green Wolf's Rebecca Green produced with Fulwell 73's Ben Winston and Leo Pearlman. Executive producers are ADG, Janet de Botton and Gary Sinyor.

Zygi Kamasa, Chief Executive of Lionsgate UK said: 'This film is a classic feelgood story about four street footballers who follow their dreams to attempt to meet their lifelong idol. Showcasing the skill and artistry of freestyle footballing combined with genuine human drama we are extremely excited about our plans for this release and feel this will reach a very diverse and wide audience.'

Nike is also backing the film, which hosted several famous footballers in Cannes last night after the screening.
