Men In Black II stormed to the top of the UK charts with an $8.4m four-day opening for Columbia Tristar Film Distributors International over the weekend, according to studio estimates released today. The sci-fi sequel rolled out on 889 screens on Thursday August 1. Overall, the picture registered an international weekend haul of $18.6m from 5,400 screens and has now grossed $126.2m-$126.3m internationally. Final figures will be released this week.

Men In Black II also opened number one in Sweden and Holland, where it grossed $1m from five days on 104 screens and $750,000 on 110 screens respectively.

Stuart Little 2 opened in second place in Korea on $1.46m on 118 screens, placing second behind Fox's Minority Report. It also opened number one in Hong Kong, with $475,000 from 50 screens; number one in Spain with $950,000 from 335 screens; and number one in portugal with $100,000 from 73 screens. The family comedy sequel took $1.25m in the UK, where it fell 10% from last weekend's gross.

The weekend total international total for Stuart Little 2 was $6.7m. So far the picture has grossed $24.7m and is currently showing on 2,417 screens.
