Neil Friedman'sLA-based sales and distribution outfit Menemsha Entertainment has picked upworldwide rights outside of Argentina and Spain to Same Love, Same Rain (El Mismo Amor, La Misma Illuvia), an Argentinian drama from the sameteam behind the enormously successful Son Of The Bride which won an Oscar nomination last yearfor Best Foreign Language Film.

Same Love,Same Rain was madebefore Son Of The Brideand released in Argentina in 1999 by Warner Bros, from which Menemshanegotiated sales rights. It is currently on release in Spain through Alta Filmsand has so far attracted over 550,000 admissions.

Also directed byJuan Jose Campanella, the character drama also starred Latin superstar RicardoDarin, who since took the leads in both Son Of The Bride and Nine Queens. It was written by Campanella andFernando Castets and was produced by Jorge Estrada Mora.

Friedman saidthat Son Of The Bridehas just been sold to Pathe in the UK for release on Mother's Day. It hasscored 50,000 admissions in Peru, over 60,000 in Colombia and will open inBrazil on Oct 18 and in Mexico in Jan.

MeanwhileMenemsha has opened its documentary Shanghai Ghetto in New York City on one screen and hasgrossed $29,115 after ten days. It will go wide in New York this Friday andarrive in Los Angeles on Oct 25. Co-directed and produced by DanaJanklowicz-Mann and Amir Mann, the film is the story of Jewish refugees whoescaped Nazi persecution to Shanghai, China, which was at the time occupied byJapanese forces. Menemsha is also selling Shanghai Ghetto in international territories.
