An Indian cinema awards night - christened the International Indian Film Awards (IIFA) - will be held at the Millennium Dome in London on June 24.

The organisation chose London as a venue to reflect the UK's status as the leading overseas market for the Mumbai-based film industry.

The show, to be co-hosted by Indian-born Miss World Yukta Mookhey and sponsored by TV channels Sony Entertainment Television and B4U, is expected to bring together some of India's biggest stars. An eight-member advisory board, including Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Yash Johar, David Dhawan, J P Dutta, Jeetendra, Pankaj Nihalani and Ramesh Sippy, will draw up the main nominations while international accounting firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers will be responsible for the technical awards.

The event, which is being dubbed the Indian movie industry's equivalent of the Oscars, will rotate between some of the world's biggest entertainment cities. The next venue is likely to be Sun City, South Africa.
