Monarch Home Video (MHV) has signed a four-film deal with Tim Reid's Obsidian Home Entertainment to supply four urban comedies, all of them purposefully free of drug references or excessive violence.

The deal starts on June 24 with the release of Tim Reid's For Real, a romantic comedy set in the music world and styled as a latter-day My Fair Lady.

Tamara Curry stars in the film alongside Reid, who also directed. DVD extras include bloopers, theatrical trailer, soundtrack music and 'the making of' footage.

In addition, Obsidian, which is based at Reid's New Millennium Studios, will provide MHV with three original titles within the next 12-18 months. All three are currently in production.

"We were actively looking to expand into an array of profitable genres in the home entertainment marketplace," said MHV general manager Dan Norem.

"Obsidian provided us the opportunity to enter the urban marketplace with a slate of high quality, talent driven, drug-free, niche product."

"Unlike many urban titles, we will diversify our genres and avoid the theme of drugs and excessive violence," added Obsidian's president Martin Jones.

For Real is set to receive its Los Angeles premiere on June 3 at the Hollywood Black Film Festival.

Monarch Home Video was established in 1989 and is a division of video, DVD and games wholesaler Ingram Entertainment.
