Monster's Ball (pictured), the Marc Forster-directed drama that earned Halle Berry her best actress Oscar, also did wonders for its distributor Lions Gate.

Lions Gate reported net income of $2.7m, or 4 cents a share, in the quarter ended June 30, compared with a loss of $335,000, or 3 cents a share, in the corresponding period last year. Revenues in the quarter rose to $94.2m from $45.1m. Revenues grew strongest at the motion picture division, were turnover soared by 130% to $69.5m. Monster's Ball generated $24.3m in video revenue during the quarter and is the most profitable film in the company's history.

Lions Gate Chief Executive Jon Feltheimer said in a statement. "Our diversified business model and the maturation of our strategy gives us confidence that our year will continue to be strong in terms of revenue and profitability."
