AmbitiousRome distributor Moviemaxhas acquired all Italian rights to Sundance title The Darwin Awards.

Sold byIcon Entertainment International, TheDarwin Awards is a dark comedy starring Joseph Fiennes and Winona Ryder asinvestigators who check people's posthumous entitlement to awards celebratingludicrous accidental deaths.

Thepicture, directed by Finn Taylor, was picked up for North America by Bauer Martinez Distribution.

The Darwin Awards brings to three the number of Sundance titlesthat three-year-old Moviemax has acquired for Italy.

Thecompany, which is headed by Guglielmo Marchetti, Rudolph Gentile and Marco Dell'Utri,has also snapped up Italian rights to AlphaDog and Lucky Number Slevin.

Moviemax was recently boosted by a hefty financialinvestment from Mondo Home Entertainment, an outfitowned by the publicly-listed animation company MondoTV.
