The Motion Picture Association and the Spanish producers' rights' management entity EGEDA have joined to create the Latin American Regional Alliance to fight piracy in the region.

The Alliance aims to work on different fronts across Latin America to ensure the protection of rights and to fight against piracy and fraud.

EGEDA agrees to work hand-in-hand with rights' management societies in Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay and eventually Mexico, Argentina and Brazil.

A pressing issue is collection on rights such as cable re-broadcasts, to date undetected in the region.

The agreement aims to have a wide-reaching impact on the Latin American sector, with additional plans to support professional training and promotional activities.

EGEDA also announced it will open an office in Los Angeles next year to serve clients based in the United States.
