Mercury Award winning band Alt-J is to collaborate with director Bruce Goodison on the soundtrack to upcoming Toby Jones film Leave To Remain.

Goodison approached the British group after listening to debut album Awesome Wave, which has sold 350,000 around the world.

Vocalist and guitarist Joe Newman read the script and reviewed some of Goodison’s other work including TV series 10 Days to War and BBC drama My Murder. Inspired by the film’s social message, Newman agreed to create a musical score for the film, which will be the band’s first.

“I was immediately charmed by the soulful nature of their music. It felt like the perfect accompaniment to the emotional journey of my characters,” Goodison said.

Leave to Remain is a coming-of-age story about refugee teens seeking asylum in London with a cast that mixes professional actors, including Toby Jones, with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
