Digital programme encourages local theatrical exhibitors to use social media networks

Berlin based media consultancy peacefulfish has launched a scheme – Digital Alfie – to encourage the use of online communities by local cinemas.

The programme aims to help theatrical exhibitors develop new business models and to use social media sites to explore what types of content their audiences would prefer. It is being backed by MEDIA’s Pilot Project Scheme, together with partners including social media company AF83, cinema and hospitality software developer SiTec, mobile marketing agency MobilEvent and content management & delivery company GlobeCast.

8 cinemas across Europe - Avignon Capitole Studios in France, BioRex Cinemas in Finland, Schauburg Karlsruhe and Cinema Munich in Germany, Movieplexx Braunau and Funplexxx Kufstein in Austria and Uckfield Picture House and Hawkhurst Kino Digital in the UK - will take part in the scheme.

Digital Alfie project manager Frauke Feuer said: “Digital Alfie focuses on creating online communities for local cinemas to help improve customer loyalty and fully exploit the opportunities of digital cinema, including satellite and mobile functionality.”
