Acclaimed violinist David Garrett plays composer Paganini alongside Joely Richardson; Beta also showcases Uberto Pasolini’s Still Life and big budget epic The Physician.
German sales outfit Beta Cinema will be at the AFM with market premieres for Niccolo Paganini biopic The Devil’s Violinist and two German-language Famous Five films, based on Enid Blyton’s best-selling books.
Acclaimed musician David Garrett makes his feature debut playing the role of Paganini in the Bernard Rose-directed drama The Devil’s Violinst, which charts the life of the celebrated virtuoso violinist, who takes Paris by storm in the 1830s.
Joely Richardson and Jared Harris co-star, with Gabriela Bacher, Rosilyn Heller and Christian Angermayer of Film House Germany producing.
Beta also has all rights outside of the UK, US and Germany to German box office hit The Famous Five, which took $7m in the territory earlier this year, and its sequel The Famous Five II - currently in production - both of which are based on Enid Blyton’s classic children’s books, which have sold more than 100m copies.
Mike Marzuk directs both films about the adventures and friendship of five imaginative and daring children. SamFilm produces both, with Constantin Film co-producing the sequel.
Beta will have promos of The Physician, the €26m epic adventure by Philip Stölzl with Tom Payne, Stellan Skarsgard and Ben Kingsley, adapted from Noah Gordon’s best-selling novel, and comedy-drama Still Life, written and directed by Uberto Passolini and starring Eddie Marsan.
Also on Beta’s slate is Imagine by Andrzej Jakimowski, Forgotten, a mystery thriller by Alex Schmidt, Shores of Hope by Toke Constantin Hebbeln and Orange Honey by Imanol Uribe.
