Carey Mulligan is confirmed as lead alongside Michael Fassbender in Steve McQueen’s hotly anticipated second feature, produced by See-Saw Films.

HanWay Films has secured a slew of distribution deals on Hunger director Steve McQueen’s second feature Shame, in France (MK2), Germany (Prokino), Benelux (Cineart), Switzerland (Frenetic), Portugal (Lusomundo), Greece (Odeon), Ex-Yugoslavia (MCF), Israel (Shani) and Iceland (Myndform).

See-Saw Films sister company Transmission Films will distribute in Australia and New Zealand.

The film’s producers Iain Canning and Emile Sherman also confirmed internet rumours that Oscar nominated actress Carey Mulligan and rising actor James Badge Dale have joined the cast alongside the previously announced Michael Fassbender.

Fassbender will play Brandon, a 30-something man living in New York, who is unable to manage his sex life, while Mulligan will play Fassbender’s sister and Badge Dale takes the role of his boss.

Canning said: ‘Because of Steve McQueen’s reputation and approach to filmmaking we have been able to cast the perfect actors for the roles. As producers we couldn’t be happier’

Co-written by McQueen and The Iron Lady writer Abi Morgan, shooting is due to begin in New York in January. The film has been financed by Film4, UKFC and Hanway.
