The Warner Bros and Barefoot Films family drama starring Til Schweiger has become the studio’s biggest release of all time in Germany.

Honig Im Kopf dropped a mere 13% in its eighth weekend and generated a further $2.6m (€2.3m) from 750 screens to boost the running total to $53.5m (€45.2m).

The film has also become the industry’s fourth biggest local release in Germany and ranks as the biggest German film in German-speaking Switzerland on $5.2m and in Austria on $3.5m.

When Honig Im Kopf launched in Germany on December 25 it scored a record opening weekend for a Schweiger film and the best debut for a German production.

Schweiger stars in and directed the story of a girl who takes her ailing grandfather, who has Alzheimer’s Disease, on a final getaway before her parents commit him to an old people’s home.
