The European Audiovisual Observatory has announced that the Netherlands will hold its presidency for 2011.
F.J. Freek Ingen Housz, the media policy advisor of the Dutch Ministry for Culture, Education and Science, will be president of the Strasbourg-based body, which collects and distributes information on the film and media industries in Europe. He currently sits on the Observatory’s executive council.
Setting out his plans for the presidency, Ingen Housz said that 2011 would be a “watershed year for the Observatory,” as the organisation’s “major strategic lines for the next three-year action plan (2012-2014) would be laid down this year.”
He added that the Dutch Presidency would hopefully represent a “platform for the Observatory to review and optimise its information output to keep pace with an increasingly complex media landscape in Europe which is strongly characterised by digitalisation, a rapid expansion of media outlets and financial upheaval.”
The Netherlands takes over the presidency from Greece.
