Rodrigo Cortes’ drama Buried is one of the first films to benefit from a new $835,487 (€600,000) regional Spanish fund.

The Castilla y Leon Film Commission has introduced the fund for features and shorts films that shoot in the region. The money can be used for the pre-production, production and/or distribution of a film. In total, $696,000 (€500,000) is being apportioned to features and the remaining $139,000 (€100,000) for short films.

Buried, which stars Ryan Reynolds as a US civilian contract worker in Iraq who is kidnapped and buried in the desert, has received $132,000 (€95,000) from the Commission. It is set to shoot in Barcelona and Castilla y Leon from this month.

Feature length projects are eligible for up to 25% of their budget, but must not exceed £132,000 (€95,000), while the short films can receive up to $33,000 (€24,000)

Other feature films that have received funding include Distinto Films’ drama Los Ninos Salvajes ($132,000), Escorado Produccion’s documentary film Iceberg ($132,000) and El Toro Azul Producciones’ Baile De Hierro ($106,000).

Castilla Y Leon, which is two hours north of Madrid, is a vast region of Spain that includes Salamanca, Segovia and Valladolid.
