The executive replaces Christian Mercuri, who has left for start-up Red Granite International and will be joined by Nu Image principal Danny Dimbort at the end of the year. Matalon previously served 14 years at New Regency as svp of distribution of domestic and international theatrical, home entertainment and television.

Prior to that he was MD of theatrical distribution for Columbia TriStar and Twentieth Century Fox in Belgium and the Netherlands from 1995-96 and served as supervisor of Sweden and Scandinavian from 1990-95.

Dimbort and Matalon will attend Toronto to handle a slate that includes Expendables 2, Straight A’s with Anna Paquin, Ryan Phillippe and Luke Wilson, The Big Wedding with Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl and Amanda Seyfried, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D and Playing The Field with Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel.

The roster includes two Nicolas Cage titles – Medallion and Trespass, the latter with Nicole Kidman – as well as Son Of No One starring Channing Tatum, Al Pacino and Katie Holmes and last year’s Toronto premiere Trust with Clive Owen.

“Roy brings over 20 years’ experience in international sales to Nu Image and we are very happy he has joined our team,” Nu Image principal Avi Lerner said. “Danny Dimbort is the best foreign salesman in the industry, and is highly respected. He is a legend.

“We needed someone to head our international sales with good experience but who would also be open to learning Danny’s way of doing things. Roy is that person.”

“To be working with and drawing from Danny’s expertise, his relationships and years of experience is a tremendous plus for me,” Matalon said. “He really is the master of sales and I am thrilled to be with Nu Image alongside my friends Avi, Danny and Trevor.”

Nu Image’s vp of international sales Adele Yoshioka, vp of international business and legal affairs Dimiter Nikolov and newly appointed Jeffrey Greenstein round out the international sales team.
