Ivan Kavanagh’s psychological horror [pictured] premiered at Tribeca.

UK genre specialist Jinga Films has added The Canal to its Cannes slate.

Ivan Kavanagh’s psychological horror premiered at Tribeca, where it was picked up by The Orchard for US distribution under its Shock Till You Drop label.

The Irish/UK co-production follows a film archivist driven insane by old newsreel footage which reveales that hist home was the scene of a brutal murder. It stars Rupert Evans, Antonia Campbell-Hughes, Hannah Hoekstra and Steve Oram.

Jinga’s Julian Richards commented: “We are very pleased to add The Canal to our Cannes line up. There has been a lot of buzz about this film since its screening at Tribeca and we are confident it will become one of the key genre titles of 2014.”

“I’m thrilled to have Jinga represent the film internationally. They are a perfect fit for The Canal,” added producer AnneMarie Naughton.

Jinga’s Cannes slate also includes Jeremy Wooding’s Blood Moon and Alejandro Hidalgo’s The House at the End of Time.
