Julianne Hough and Russell Brand have been confirmed to star in Mandate Pictures’ untitled Diablo Cody project.

Hough (soon to be seen in the remake of Footloose) will play a sheltered young woman and Brand (from Get Him to the Greek) will play the unlikely companion she meets on her way to Las Vegas.

Cody, best known as the Oscar-winning writer of Juno, will make her feature directorial debut working from her own screenplay.

Mason Novick will produce and Mandate president Nathan Kahane will executive produce alongside Cody. The project is on a fast track for a spring production start and Lionsgate will be handling international sales at the upcoming American Film Market.
