Currently shooting in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, Markus Dietrich’s debut feature tells the story of the German reunification from a child’s perspective.
Hamster Film, a joint venture between Filmhouse Germany AG and Dutch production company Lemming Film, are currently in production on their first feature film Sputnik with shooting taking place in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
Telling the story of the German reunification in 1989 from a child’s perspective, writer/director Markus Dietrich’s semi-autobiographical debut feature centres around a young girl and her friends who build a teleportation devie to beam her uncle back to East Germany but end up beaming all their townspeople into the West instead. Yvonne Catterfeld, Devid Striesow, Maxim Mehmet and Andreas Schmidt lead the cast.
A co-production of Hamster Film and ostlicht filmproduktion, with further involvement from A Private View (Belgium) and Negativ Film Productions (Czech Republic), Sputnik is developed in collaboration with MDR and NDR with funding from Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM), Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA), Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein (FFHSH), Deutscher Filmförderfonds (DFFF), Eurimages and the Czech Film Fund.
Founded by Leontine Petit, Joost de Vries [pictured] and Dorothe Beinemeier, Hamster Film will focus on family entertainment productions that are culturally rooted in Germany and aims to develop original scripts in addition to bestseller-based adaptations.

Sputnik is set for a German theatrical release in fall 2013.
