Felix Herngren directs the adaptation of Jonas Jonasson’s bestseller, starring Robert Gustafsson [pictured].

 

Currently shooting in Hungary, Swedish actor-director Felix Herngren’s first feature in six years, The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared (Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann), will receive $1.7 million (SEK 11 million) production funding from the Swedish Film Institute.
 
Swedish production outfit Nice FLX Pictures has signed a deal with the Walt Disney Company Nordic for Scandinavian distribution of he film, which will be released Buena Vista International during Christmas 2013. The Tele Munchen Group will handle German-speaking territories.
 
Adapted from Swedish author Jonas Jonasson’s first novel, which became Sweden’s top-selling book in 2010, won the Booksellers’ Award and was licensed to 35 countries, is the story of Alla Karlsson, who after long and eventful life ends up at a nursing home – the last stop.
 
Problem is his health refuses to let him down, and one day he turns 100. The mayor, the press, the entire staff are all expecting him for the big celebration, but he doesn’t want to be part of it and decides to climb out of the window and embark on an adventurous voyage.
 
Starring Robert Gustafsson – once named Sweden’s Funniest Man, who won the national film prize, the Guldbagge, for his performance in Four Shades of Brown - the film was scripted by Herngren and Hans Ingemansson.
 
The Hundred-Year-Old Man is produced by Henrik Jannsson-Schweizer, Patrick Nebout and Herngren for Nice FLX Pictures, owned by FLX 2.0 and Nice Drama, a part of leading independent TV producer in the Nordic countries, Nice Entertainment.
