Ruby Films MD Paul Trijbits has left the company and boarded BBC series The Casual Vacancy as executive producer.

MD Paul Trijbits has departed Ruby Film and Television. His first role post-Ruby will be as executive producer on JK Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy series for the BBC and The Blair Partnership.

Trijbits will manage the production and appoint a writer to adapt the novel about a seemingly quiet English village hiding a number of explosive feuds. The book is Harry Potter writer Rowling’s first for adults.

Trijbits, who joined Alison Owen’s Ruby Films in 2007, was unavailable for comment about his departure from the London-based outfit.

Trijbits’ recent executive producer and producer credits include Disney’s Saving Mr Banks, Focus Features’ Jane Eyre, and Stephen Poliakoff’s Dancing on the Edge, a six-part drama for the BBC.

JK Rowling will collaborate closely on the project. The number and length of the episodes is to be decided. Commissioner for the BBC is Danny Cohen, controller of BBC One, and Ben Stephenson, controller of BBC Drama. It is expected to air in 2014.

Neil Blair and Rick Senat of agency The Blair Partnership will be executive producers.

Trijbits joined Alison Owen’s Ruby in early 2007, after his six-year stint as head of the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund.
