Attendees at premieres in New Zealand and London will receive specially branded RealD 3D glasses in dark green plastic.

RealD has been chosen as the 3D technology provider for the world premiere of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey [pictured].

The premiere will take place in Wellington, New Zealand on Nov 28 at the Embassy Theater and will be presented in RealD High Frame Rate 3D (HFR 3D). RealD will also provide the 3D technology for the film’s UK premiere on Dec 12 at the 65th Royal Film Performance at London’s Odeon Leicester Square.

Attendees at both premieres will receive specially branded RealD 3D glasses in dark green plastic. The glasses will be available only to RealD 3D screenings during the film’s opening weekend.

Worldwide, RealD 3D is used on approximately 21,500 cinema screens by 900 exhibitors in 68 countries around the world. RealD 3D is HFR compatible and can be shown on screens up to 82 feet (25m) wide with a single digital cinema projector.
