Film4’s programme of open-air screenings at London’s Somerset House will kick off with summer blockbuster Knight and Day.

Film4 Summer Screen (July 29-August 8) will feature eleven nights of films on the open air screen at Somerset House with an accompanying season of talks and special events in Behind the Screen in collaboration with Film4 and BAFTA.

Behind The Screen presents a series of talks and round table discussions before each of the main films. Panellists include writer Jesse Armstrong (In The Loop, Four Lions), actor David Walliams, Stanley Kubrick’s widow Christiane Kubrick, producer Jan Harlan (The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut) and Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini, the film-makers behind StreetDance 3D.

Screenings range from big budget action adventures Knight And Day, Kill Bill Volume 1 and Master And Commander to classics including Black Narcissus, Manhattan and cult hit Mulholland Drive.

Jenny Waldman, Public Programmes Consultant, Somerset House Trust, said: “Film4 Summer Screen is so much more than just a beautiful open-air cinema: it is a total film experience: the best films shown in state of the art conditions, unique encounters with the people who make them, the splendour of the setting at Somerset House. We are thrilled to announce a great programme for everyone in our tenth anniversary year.”

David Cox, Film4 Channel Editor, said: “A love of film has always been very much at the heart of Film4, with Summer Screen providing a unique opportunity for us to celebrate our passion for cinema directly with fellow fans. Of course, there’s no better place to do that than at Somerset House, where the courtyard brings a sense of the extraordinary to the simple act of sharing a film.”
