Marc Evans directs the high school musical comedy

Rising Welsh actor Aneurin Barnard has signed on to star opposite Minnie Driver in high school set musical comedy Hunky Dory, which has just begun a six week shoot in Swansea, Wales.

Marc Evans is directing the film, which is set in 1976 and tells the story of a high school drama teacher (Driver) who decides that the end of year show will be a rock and roll version of The Tempest. Barnard will play the film’s male lead.

The script has been written by Laurence Coriat (Wonderland) and is being produced by Billy Elliot producer Jon Finn and Dan Lupovitz, whose credits include Death Defying Acts. Billy Elliot musical director Jeremy Holland Smith is also on board.

Independent is handling international sales, with eOne Films set to release Hunky Dory  in the UK next spring/summer.
