Gary Oldman and Virginie Ledoyen are headlining a new Englishlanguage horror title from Spain's Filmax, The Backwoods.

To be sold internationally by Filmax, the film is aco-production with Spanish start-ups Monfort Producciones and Videntia FramesProducciones together with the UK's Holy Cow and France's Divine Productions.

It began shooting under award-winning short film directorKoldo Serra on August 1 and will continue in locations around Spain's BasqueCountry for eight weeks.

Paddy Considine (24 Hour Party People) and AitanaSanchez-Gijon (The Machinist) co-star in the 1978-set tale of a Britishcouple who travel to a friend's secluded vacation home in the northern Spanishwoods. There they come upon a young girl with horribly deformed hands but arerepeatedly thwarted in their attempts to get her help by a group of locals andby the nature of the woods themselves.

Filmax is also currently co-producing Tom Tykwer's $60m Perfume- The Story Of A Murderer starring Dustin Hoffman, Ben Whishaw, AlanRickman and Rachel Hurd-Wood with Germany's Constantin Film, private media fundVIP Medienfonds 4b and France's Nouvelles Editions des Films.

Dreamworks has US distribution rights to thestoryof a man whose obsession with finding a perfume embodying the essence of beautyturns him into a serial killer. It began shooting July 12 in Munich and willshoot in and around Barcelona and Gerona between August 3-October 18. SummitEntertainment is handling international sales.

Filmax will premiere Fragile, Jaume Balaguero'snew horror title starring Calista Flockhart, in Venice.
