Paramount is joining the Prague production influx with romantic comedy The Prince and the Freshman starring Julia Stiles and directed by Martha Coolidge (Valley Girl, Rambling Rose).

The film has received the green light and will begin production in the Czech capital in June, Prague sources told Screendaily.

Paramount joins a slate of other firms shooting in the Czech capital in what may prove to be the Prague film scene's busiest year ever.

The second unit of Universal's Van Helsing wrapped last week, while earlier this month, MGM and Dimension Films green-lit Terry Gilliam's $75 million Brothers Grimm and Akron Entertainment gave the nod to an untitled First Daughter project starring Mandy Moore. These shoots join Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboy (Sony), the untitled Ugly Americans project (DreamWorks), and the BBC's Charles II.

Lions Gate Films and Sobini Films, the production outfit headed by Tristar Pictures founder and ex-chief executive Mark Amin, share co-production credits on the film in which Stiles plays an American college student who unknowingly falls in love with a British prince played by British TV actor Luke Mably.
