Whilst the collective experience of the 'mechanics' of development and production is to be welcomed - it is also the very least you'd expect from anyone in such a post. It's a bit worrying when you study the output though because Harry Potter, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Billy Elliot etc. are all regrettable examples of UK films - if HP is one at all. and did Ministry of Fear Ltd. ever get off the ground? If individual taste plays a part, and we all know it does, then let's hope the 'dream team' allow some influence in and don't behind 'big jobs' as arbiters of taste - otherwise UKFC's fund will yield a pipeline of 'chocolate box' Brit. pics. that feed a quaint view of UK that the US has but very few of us recognise. On a related point isn't it time time for a moratorium on UKFC, BBC Films and Film4 being able to co-finance productions together? Doesn't this kind of 'risk sharing' with our money reduce the number of UK films?
