As someone who's tried to co produce (with Italy) it's almost impossible to find partners who are proactive about bringing some finance to the table. They mostly expect to service local tax breaks with you bringing in all the money or are rather incompetent/fishy when it comes to a straight answer. I realise that may sound stereotypical but I set out on my films journey with optimism at making the best film possible. I feel jaded at the lack of support I had from UK funds and co producers I've dealt with. It's a vague mess and as Pauline points out, not being part of Eurimages doesn't help.
