All the points about audiences and digital changes point for the need for change in our approach to distribution. However,perhaps a bigger question is why do we need distributors in national markets? If a producer can talk with exhibitors directly and have their own social media networks, and communities online to support their films. For releases which are not aimed at 300+ screens the high cost of distributors fees compounded by digital fees makes a strong case for moving on to direct distribution for all non-studio releases.
