The first ever Mipcom DVDawards were announced in Cannes on Wednesday evening (Oct 6).

The awards were created inJune in conjunction with the US-based DVD Association and the Belgium-basedInternational Video Federation. Prizes were given to reward creativity andinnovation in DVD content.

Jean-Paul Commin of FranceTelevisions Distribution headed up the jury which screened 132 submissions from58 companies and 16 countries.

Trophies were handed out innine categories. Winners included Capturing The Friedmans for best workof non-fiction, The Last Samurai for best film in the English languageand Hero for best foreign language film.
