The 48th San Sebastian International Film Festival (September 21-30) will host a tribute to Bernardo Bertolucci which will feature screenings of all of his films as well as several documentaries about him and his body of work.

Coinciding with the film's 25th anniversary, Bertolucci's Novecento will be given a special screening in the festival's Velodrome, which seats 3,000 in front of a 400-square metre screen. The tribute to Bertolucci will be accompanied by a special edition book by Spanish film historian Carlos F. Heredero.

The festival, under the continued direction of Diego Galan, also announced a retrospective dedicated to British director Carol Reed (The Third Man). A sidebar on the so-called "TV Generation" will feature North American film and television talent from the 1950s and 1960s, such as Arthur Penn, John Frankenheimer and Sidney Lumet. Those who were "blacklisted" during this period will be highlighted in the sidebar.
