Spanish multimedia group Sogecable has taken a 3.23% stake in France's Canal Plus Technologies in a deal valued at Euros 49.7m.

The acquisition was made jointly with Sony and Thomson Multimedia for an overall 9.7% share in Canal Plus Technologies, a leading digital TV technology provider. As part of the deal, Sogecable and Canal + Technologies have also formed a 50-50 partnership to develop exclusive interactive applications for the Spanish and Portuguese speaking markets.

Housed within the giant Grupo Prisa and 21.27% owned by Canal Plus France, Sogecable is home to myriad media interests including Sogecine, Sogepaq, Warner Sogefilms, Warner Lusmundo, Canal Satelite Digital and Canal Plus. The deal was signed between Sogecable CEO Javier Diez de Polanco and Canal Plus Technologies president Francois Carayol.
