Spanish rights and distribution house Sogepaq has added Ano Mariano, Spain's top box office performer this year, and Kilometro Zero to its growing list of local pick-ups for international sales.

Ano Mariano has racked up more than a million admissions since its August 11 premiere. The film was produced by Asegarce Zinema and released locally by Aurum.

Kilometro Zero was co-produced by Universal Pictures Spain and Cuarteto PC in association with Media Park. Warner Sogefilms released the title in Spain.

"The pick-ups form a part of our strategy to maximise all of our business areas," Sogepaq general manager Margaret Nicoll said. Nicoll added: "We are especially interested in building our international division."

The company has acquired split rights on a string of local titles in recent months. Sogepaq has added muscle this year to its international acquisitions presence thanks in part to a joint big-budget acquisitions venture formed withCanal Plus Image last October.

The operation has taken theatrical and video rights in Spain on Gitano starringJoaquin Cortes, Days Of Glory (Dias De Gloria) and Vicente Aranda's CrazyLove (Locura De Amor). Pay-TV and theatrical rights in Spain have beenacquired on Love, Curiosity, Prozac And Doubts (Amor, Curiosidad, ProzacY Dudas), starring Guillaume Depardieu.

Additionally, Sogepaq has all rights in Spain on the El Deseo production The Devil'sBackbone (El Espinazo Del Diablo) and Miguel Hermoso's Fugitives (Fugitivas). The company also handles international rights on films including Fugitives, Days Of Glory, Crazy Love and Cannes Critics Week title Krampack.

Sogepaq handles overseas rights through Sogepaq International and local theatricaldistribution through Warner Sogefilms, a joint venture with Warner Bros.
