Sony Entertainment Television has acquired five-year multiple broadcast rights for Yashraj Film's library for around $3.5m.

The rights will be restricted to the Asian region and include Mohabbatein, Dil To Pagal Hai and Darr. Sony TV will start a three-month movie festival of Yashraj Film's movies beginning this August with Dilwale Dulhaniyan Le Jayenge. In addition, Sony TV channel SetMax will air two Yashraj movies every month.

With this acquisition, Sony which has 800 movies in its library will have broadcast rights for three of the top five grossing movies of 2000 including Mission Kashmir and Kaho Na Pyaar Ha, which will be premiered on Diwali day (Indian Festival of Lights). Sony Entertainment Television also has the tv rights to 23 of superstar Amitabh Bachchan's movies. SetMax will be airing them in three consecutive months beginning this May.
