Indian TV outfit Sony Entertainment Television is planning to buy TV rights to up to 50 Hindi movies in the next year.

The company will invest up to$25 million for the rights to the films, which it aims to broadcast on Sony TV and SET Max in India and SET Asia TV across the globe.

The films will be a mix of small, medium and blockbuster movies. The channel which already has about 1000 titles is reported to be in talks with the producers of recent Hindi films Chalte Chalte, Hungama, Qayamat, Koi' Mil Gaya, Andaaz, Bhoot, Jhankar Beats, Saathiya and Jism.

A successful Hindi box office film costs in the range of US$ 1 million and TV rights for smaller movies range from $200,000 to $500,000. Sony had also picked up the TV rights as well as the overseas theatrical distribution rights for Lagaan.
