Spanish mini-studio Filmax is preparing ambitious new plans to expand and diversify its already wide-ranging activities.

The Barcelona-based company is one of the Spanish industry's biggest, with production, distribution, exhibition and international sales ventures. It is behind internationally successful genre label Fantastic Factory and is readying a new slate of ambitious films and co-productions to present in Cannes.

According to statements made by Filmax president Julio Fernandez at a conference in Barcelona on Tuesday and published locally, future plans include launching family-oriented production label Filmax Family and beefing up its TV production activities through Filmax TV.

The company also looks set to enter both the music business, via label Filmax Music, and video games, through its animation factory Bren Entertainment, as well as developing content for mobile phones.

Fernandez is also quoted as saying Filmax is considering bringing new backers into the company as part of a capital amplification.
