Star TV has signed a five-year output agreement with Hong Kong star Andy Lau and his Teamwork Motion Pictures production company.

The deal gives Star exclusive pay-TV, pay-per-view and video-on-demand rights to Teamwork films starring Lau, for Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, the Philippines and Singapore. Star also has output deals with Hong Kong's China Star and Media Asia, and with this latest agreement, claims to hold more than 70% of pay-TV licences for feature film content produced in Hong Kong.

Star expects four to five movies out of Teamwork over the next three years, but Teamwork executive producer Shelly Lau puts the figure much higher. "We're looking at making eight to ten films a year," said Lau.

The first picture to be delivered under the deal is A Fighter's Blues, a Thai-boxing picture which marks Andy Lau's 100th film as star.

Formed by Lau in 1990, Teamwork's credits include critically-acclaimed features such as Made in Hong Kong (1997) and The Longest Summer (1998), both directed by Fruit Chan.
