Devdas received a strong opening in the German-speaking region of Switzerland last weekend (Aug 21-24) playing at just four screens for an average of just under $4,900 per screen. This was only bettered over the weekend by wide-released blockbuster Pirates Of The Caribbean. Devdas was released in the French-speaking region in April this year.

Distributor Monopole Pathe, which handles Devdas, enjoyed a strong weekend. French film Taxi 3 also launched in the German sector on seven screens for the third highest average of the weekend and fifth place in the German-sector chart. The sequel grossed $1.1m (SFR 1.5m) in the French region where it received an opening 12-times higher at the end of January. Meanwhile French title Pere Et Fils opened in the French-speaking region where it ranked fourth over the weekend.
