Stephen Frears, Peter Weir and Jane Campion are among the guests attending the 50th edition of the Taormina Film Festival (June 13-20).

Felice Laudadio, former Venice director who has headed the Taormina Film Festival since 2000, said that Anjelica Huston, Margarethe Von Trotte, John Jost and Roberto Perpignano are also expected to attend, and will all be hosting a series of workshops during the event.

Twelve international films will compete for the festival's Firepresci-Taormina Arte prize as well as the Euros 10,000 audience prize. The festival jury will also hand out a Euros 25,000 prize to the best first film.

The competition will feature Italian film Miracolo A Palermo, directed by Beppe Cini with Tony Sperandeo and Luigi Maria Burruano (A Hundred Steps).

The opening night of the festival will feature a screening of the 1928 silent film Napoli Che Canti, by Sergio Leone's father Roberto Roberti.

On its closing night, Taormina will host the Nastro d'Argento awards, Italy's second highest film accolade.
