The Aviator and Sideways took three and two film awards apiece at tonight's (16) 62nd Golden Globes, earning respective honours for best drama and best musical or comedy.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx cemented their status as Academy Award frontrunners with acting wins for The Aviator in the drama category and Ray in the musical or comedy stakes.

Annette Bening maintained her awards season momentum with the best actress in a musical or comedy trophy for her role in Being Julia, and will face stiff competition for the Oscar from Hilary Swank, who claimed corresponding honours in the drama category for Million Dollar Baby.

Closer wrapped up both best supporting actor awards for Clive Owen and Natalie Portman, Clint Eastwood won best director for Million Dollar Baby, and Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor took the best screenplay award for Sideways.

Alejandro Amenabar collected the Best Foreign Language Film award for The Sea Inside (Spain), Howard Shore's music for The Aviator took top honours in the best original score category, and Mick Jagger and Dave Stewart's Old Habits Die Hard from Alfie won best original song.

Robin Williams was honoured with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's 2005 Cecil B DeMille Award for his "outstanding contribution to the entertainment field".
