The UK's Tartan Video is to release Bertrand Bonello's The Pornographer on video in two different versions due to the restrictions of the British Video Recordings Act 1984.

One version with an 18 certificate will be available for 18 year olds to purchase in normal high-street retail outlets with an 11 seconds cut demanded by the BBFC. The other version of the film, which will carry an R18 certificate will be made available to the same 18 year-old buyers, but only through licensed sex shops.

Tartan Video will be releasing a map of London to explain to confused buyers in which shops each version is available.

The Pornographer was cut by 11 seconds by the British Board of Film Certification for its cinema release. The decision caused a flurry of media attention debating the nature of censorship in Britain.

According to a release from Tartan Video: "in every country in Europe, with the exception of the United Kingdom, The Pornographer has been released without any cuts. The UK is the only country in the world in which this fiasco will exist".
