Local legend KingArthur was crowned UK box office champion over the weekend.

A largely British cast, led by Clive Owen and KeiraKnightley, star in Antoine Fuqua's drama which dethroned Spider-Man 2. The film grossed $3.5m (£1.9m) including previews,which accounted for $603,466 (£331,864) of the gross.

Marketing featured Knightley most prominently given herrising-star status and her allure to teenage audiences, but posters alsofeatured Owen and Ioan Gruffudd, best known to UK audiences for his lead rolein the television series Hornblowerand set to star as Mr Fantastic in next year's potential blockbuster comicbookadaptation The Fantastic Four.

While holdovers largely went into sharp decline astemperatures soared in the UK five further new openers entered the chart.

The most impressive of these was Bollywood title Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (literally Will YouMarry Me). Asian entertainment network Zee Network distributed the film whichopened at 32 sites, including two in London's West End, to score the best siteaverage of weekend.
