The UK's Gala Film Distributors has made its first acquisition of a Thai film, buying Pen-ek Ratanaruang's Mon-rak Transistor, which will get its international premiere in Cannes Directors' Fortnight.

The film is billed as a contemporary genre-defying odyssey of self-discovery about a young man from rural Thailand. Handled by Fortissimo, the film was also sold to Ocean Films for France.

Earlier sales include Klockworx for Japan, Lucky Red for Italy and Ablaze for Hong Kong. The film was released in Thailand by Five Star Entertainment.
