Homegrown comedy Chiedimi Se Sono Felice (Ask Me If I'm Happy) has largely eclipsed Hollywood fare such as Unbreakable at the Italian box office, grossing $3,040,867 in its fourth weekend from 269 theatres.

Co-directed by and starring local comic trio Aldo, Giovanni & Giacomo, the film has taken a massive $23m since its release on December 15, a record-breaking result for an Italian release. Previous all-time highs for the same release period were recorded by comedian Leonardo Pieraccioni's Fuochi D'Artificio ($19m) and Titanic ($21m).

Unbreakable grossed $1.7m on 209 screens in its third weekend, but was up 76% at the end of the last holiday weekend of the winter season. Italy is one of the few international territories where the supernatural thriller has been kept off the top spot.

Ask Me If I'm Happy , about aspiring actors whose burning desire is to stage a production of Cyrano de Bergerac, now has tough competition as Cast Away looms. But distributor Medusa this weekend posted results that were up 16% and a three-day screen average of $11,304.

Autumn In New York, another Medusa release in its fourth week, came in third with $1.5m. The romantic drama has built a total of $7.4m so far.
