Universe puts Filmart buyers on Alert with Benny Chan actioner

Hong Kong’s Universe Films Distribution is introducing the latest project from hot action director Benny Chan - $10m sci-fi action title City On Alert (working title) - to buyers at Filmart.

Chan is producing and will direct the film, which is set to star Aaron Kwok, Wu Jing and Shu Qi. Currently in pre-production, it revolves around a troupe of circus performers who embark on a crime spree when they accidentally acquire superhuman skills.

Other behind-the-scenes talent includes scriptwriter Tsang Kan Cheong (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer) and art director William Chang (2046). A leading as-yet-unconfirmed action director will also be brought on board the project for the fighting scenes.

Universe is also launching a 3D horror project, The Child’s Eye In 3D (working title), to be directed by the Pang Brothers, at Filmart. The $4.5m film is in pre-production and tentatively scheduled for release in summer 2010.

Separately Oxide Pang has recently directed romantic drama Basic Love and comedy Trick Or Cheat for Universe, while Danny Pang has directed drama Play Big! Universe is also showing a new three-minute promo of the Pang Brothers’ martial arts epic The Storm Warriors, currently in post-production, which stars Aaron Kwok and Ekin Cheng.
