Official figures released yesterday (17) confirm Universal's VanHelsing grossed $24.5m on 5,121 screens in 41 territories in its secondweekend for a $95m industry running total.

The picture added $23m from 4,876 screens in 38 UIP territoriesfor an $88.9m UIP total, while Russia, the Philippines and Iceland amassed$1.5m from 245 through third party distributors.

Van Helsing trailed new release Troy inalmost every market but remained top in its second week in the UK, where Troyopens later this week, on $4.4m on 455 for $17.5m after a 52% drop.

It fell 56% in Germany on $3m on 748 for $12.1m, and remained topin Italy on $1.8m on 264 after a 54% drop for $6.9m. The picture is expected topass the $7.7m final gross of The Mummy Returns this week.

Van Helsing added $2.1m on 400 in Spain afterfalling 58% for $8.1m and grossed $1.6m on 229 in Australia after dropping 54%for a $6.2m running total there.

It grossed $2.1m in France on 638 after dropping 58% to rank thirdon $7.7m, while Mexico produced $1.2m on 346 after dropping 40% for $5.4m.

In Brazil it added $550,000 on 238 and fell 42% for a lacklustre$2.1m, while Argentina's total climbed by $117,000 from 58 after a 48% drop for$411,000.

Taiwan remained number one after a 19% drop and raised its runningtotal to $1.1m on 62, while Malaysia fell 42% and grossed $263,000 on 38 in itssecond weekend and Hong Kong fell 39% on $466,000 on 39.

Dawn Of The Dead opened strongly in Korea on $671,000 on90 and is vying with Kill Bill Vol 2 for third place. The picture hasalready reached the original's lifetime estimate.

Overall the horror remake added $966,000 on 578 screens in 12countries for a $14.8m international running total, with 19 countries still toopen.

Latest international totals for other Universal pictures put AlongCame Polly on $81.2m, Honey on $23.5m and The Cat In The Haton $31.7m.
