French film-maker Agnes Varda (The Gleaners) has completed shooting The Flighty Lion, the first in a series of twenty shorts uniting directors such as Jean-Luc Godard, Tom Tykwer and Woody Allen.

The twenty shorts are to be put together as a feature film entitled Paris Je T'Aime, produced by Paris-based Novem Productions. Each short film is dedicated to a 'falling in love' story set in one of Paris' twenty districts and is to be written and directed by a different film-makers. Next, Jean-Luc Godard will shoot Champ Contre Champ.

Along with French film-makers such as Jan Kounen, Fanny Ardant, Olivier Dahan and Pascal Thomas, among others, a number of international auteurs have either signed or agreed to participate, including Tom Tykwer, Walter Salles, Sally Potter, Seijun Suzuki, Asia Argneto, Woody Allen, Vincenzo Natali (Cube).

Foreign sales on Paris Je T'Aime, which carries a $3.6m price tag and is expected to be completed for a 2003 release, are handled by Mariko Hirakawa of River Films. Shochiku has already acquired the Japanese rights.

Plans for the project were first announced at Cannes this year.
