Warner Bros Pictures has acquired remake rights from Pathe to the French blockbuster Bienvenue Chez Les Ch'tis (aka Welcome To The Shticks) for Will Smith and his Overbrook Entertainment to produce. Pathe International will handle the sales rights to the film.

James Lassiter, Smith and Ken Stovitz will produce for Overbrook with Agnes Mentre; Lynn Harris is overseeing for Warner Bros.

The film, which has attracted over 20m admissions in France since its opening on Feb 27 - representing over $190m in box office gross and has surpassed Titanic as the biggest film on record.

Dany Boon directed, co-wrote and stars in the original about a postal worker (played by Kad Merad) from the sunny south who is transferred to the Nord pas de Calais region in the far north of France much to the horror of his wife whom he leaves behind while he settles in. But when he gets north, he quickly adapts to the people and customs, and enjoys the single life while continuing to tell his wife not to join him.
