Start-up video-on-demand operator VideoOnline Communications has signed a multi-year VoD and subscription VoD agreement with Warner Bros International Television Distribution (WBITD) for Hong Kong rights to all current feature-length films in addition to hundreds of library titles.

The agreement allows VideoOnline to offer legal downloads of Warner Bros content through its 08Media portal which launched on March 29 in Hong Kong.

The service will initially offer more than 100 films distributed by WBITD including Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, V For Vendetta, Superman Returns, The Ant Bully, Lady In The Water and Happy Feet.

All video content can be streamed or downloaded and played on compatible home computers.

'VideoOnline is committed to working directly with Hollywood studios in protecting their copyright assets and has instituted sophisticated video watermarking, digital rights management and other advanced security measures to ensure the complete protection of copyrighted films and television content,' said VideoOnline founder and CEO Priscilla M. Lu.

Based in Hong Kong, Beijing and LA, VideoOnline says its initial focus is Asia, in particular China. The company received backing of $12m from Intel Capital, the venture capital arm of Intel Corp, earlier this year.
