Fraser will play the title role in the upcoming family action film William Tell: 3D, which Arclight will introduce to Cannes buyers.

Nick Hurran will direct from a script by Scott Reynolds and Todd Moyer is producing and expects principal photography to start on Oct 1 at Castel Studios in Romania and on location in Switzerland. Arclight chief Gary Hamilton will also produce.

Swiss folk hero William Tell was a 14th century marksman who was forced to shoot an apple off his son’s head after he failed to bow before a local ruler’s hat. He succeeded and his act of defiance led to the formation of modern Switzerland.

Anna Paquin is in talks to play Tell’s wife and Til Schweiger is lined up to portray the feared local dignitary Hermann Gessler.

“There is no other actor who is more perfectly suited to be the patriot and family man that is William Tell,” Moyer said. “Brendan was the driving force behind the movie being shot in 3D. He’s a witty, charming and very likeable action hero, and he really anchors the ensemble cast.”

Fraser has a busy summer. He is currently shooting the fish heist comedy Whole Lotta Sole in Belfast and will start on Gimme Shelter in June. After that he will voice the role of Scorch in TWC’s 3-D animated film Escape From Planet Earth before playing an 18th century British nobleman in Four Kings.
